Leeds first for developers charged with eco-credentials

BAM Properties, a member of the West End Partnership, is leading the way in eco-friendly development, as its Latitude Red development in Leeds becomes the first office block in the city to offer tenants an electric car charging point.

The charging point can be found in the newly completed development’s 91 space secure basement car park.

Electric cars currently have limited ranges meaning that they may need topping up at both ends of a journey. With the next generation of electric cars including mini and smart addressing this with longer ranges and better choice, the Latitude facility will offer those more eco-conscious drivers the chance to re-charge their batteries while at work.

The building, which completed in December of last year and offers over 122,000 sq ft of grade A office space, has already been awarded a BREEAM excellent rating – one of the first buildings in Leeds to receive the accolade.

The West End Partnership, a consortium of four of the regions biggest developers, is currently investing £1billion to create a five star business district in the west end of Leeds.

And, with green and sustainable issues high on the Partnership’s agenda, this first for Leeds proves that the developers are willing to go that one step further to attract a new breed of tenants who have a more sustainable criteria in mind.

Comments Nick Dockree, director at BAM Properties: “Businesses planning a move now demand cost-effective, yet sustainable solutions and a location where they can remain for the long-term.

“The West End Partnership will succeed in delivering a five star financial district by successfully anticipating the needs of the market: high grade, value for money space, and sustainable buildings with world beating public realm.”

Another of the West End’s developments, MEPC’s 2.6 million sq ft Wellington Place project, is wherever practical utilizing natural ventilation and exploiting the thermal mass properties of

the structure, along with other technologies to reduce energy outputs of its buildings. The public realm in and around Wellington Place which has been designed by world renowned Martha Schwartz will sit alongside some of the best examples in Europe.
